Impotence, or erectile dysfunction, is a plague for many men. This is generally described as a man’s inability to obtain an erection or to maintain it long enough in order to have sex. In some cases, impotence means that a man cannot ejaculate during a sexual act.
Most men experience this problem at a certain point, but it is scientifically proven that it is more common is older men and in many cases it is caused by the process of aging. However, this doesn’t mean that younger men cannot have erectile dysfunction.
Commonly, occasional impotence that happens once in a while is not a problem, but if this continues for a longer period of time, it brings many emotional issues for both the man and his sex partner.
Very often the causes of impotence are emotional and they include worries, fear, stress, anger, depression, etc. Sometimes the problem may be caused by lack of sexual interest in the partner.
However, there are many physical factors that result in erectile dysfunction. One of them is reduced levels of testosterone but this condition is successfully treated with hormones. The impotence can also be a side effect of different medications used for treatment of heart diseases, epilepsy, depression, high blood pressure. A groin injury as well as nerve damage can also lead to development of erectile dysfunction.
It is recommended that men who have such problem consult a doctor who will determine their condition, its cause and an adequate treatment.
