A typical day at the hospital falls on either; the obstetrics or the night rotation.
The obstetrics rotation begins at 7 am and ends at 5:30 pm. The medic first signs in and goes through the sign-out reports from the night rotation staff. They get updated on all patients and run pre and post-ops. If there are any surgeries, they prepare the patients and also deal with post-partum problems that arise among the patients. They do ward rounds and settle in to prepare the sign-out report from 5 pm before handing it over to the night round specialists at 5:30 pm.
The night round begins at 5:30 pm and is the busiest. Residents are trained longer before being assigned this shift that has the most number of services. A junior and senior resident handle the night round. The junior resident handles low-risk cases, while the senior resident deals with high-risk ones. The shift begins by looking at the sign-out report. They do major surgeries, C-sections, and post-partum monitoring. In the end, they prepare a sign-out report and hand it over to the obstetrics round.
