Many people believe that if we want to maintain our weight we have to stop eating fats. However, this is not the true. Our body needs fats, they are important for the normal functions of the body. But it is important that we don’t consume large amounts of fat and make difference between healthy and unhealthy fats.
There are many researches that try to determine the role of fat for some diseases, for example diabetes, obesity, heart disease, cancer, etc. The main conclusion is that we should control the amount of saturated fat we consume.
What we should do is to cut down the usage of bad fats. Bad fats are saturated fats, trans fats and cholesterol. These are sound in cream, butter, lard, bacon fat, meat fat, chicken skin, crisps, pastries, margarine, etc.
However, we shouldn’t stop consuming fats entirely. We should focus on the so-called good fats which include mono- and polyunsaturated fats. They are found in sunflower, safflower, canola, olive oils and nuts.
There is also a third type of fats, the essential fats – omega-3 and omega-6 fats. Our body cannot produce these fats and we have to obtain them from sources that contain them, such as fish, eggs, flaxseed, canola and soybean oils.
In order to maintain our body healthy, we need to avoid taking bad fats and concentrate on good fats, and essential fats.
