Getting a cancer diagnosis can be a truly terrifying thing – and is likely to be something that completely upends your life in a number of different ways. Cancer, after all, comes in a wide range of severities and all too often leads to the loss of life. Fortunately, however, more and more high tech and advanced cancer therapies are being developed than ever before – and one of them is proton cancer treatment.
Proton cancer treatment is becoming more and more commonplace, more widespread, with many a cancer treatment center now beginning to offer this type of cancer treatment. The promise of proton treatment is vast, and many patients will even look to choose a cancer treatment center where they can take advantage of this therapy. In fact, many a cancer treatment center is being built especially to accommodate proton therapy for breast cancer, brain cancer, and many other types of cancer. As of recently gathered data, there were already up to 30 particle centers for proton therapy being construction by the year of 2015. In the years that have passed us by since, such a cancer treatment center has only become more prevalent and easy to access
After all, the benefits of proton therapy are many, as any doctor working at a cancer treatment center can likely attest to. Many of the benefits can actually be seen when we compare proton radiation therapy to more traditional forms of radiation treatment for cancer. For one thing, the radiation that goes to other parts of the body, the ones that have not been impacted by cancer, is greatly reduced, thanks to the targeted approach that proton therapy takes. When breast cancer is being treated through proton radiation therapy, only about half of the radiation of traditional radiation therapy will end up being exposed to the lungs. And the heart, in the vast majority of patients, won’t end up being exposed to radiation at all, something that cannot always be said for traditional methods of radiation cancer treatment.
Proton therapy as given at the typical cancer treatment center can also be more than ideal for the treatment of prostate cancer. After all, prostate cancer is often able to be caught early on in the progression of the cancer, allowing it to be often completely eradicated. And proton therapy is particularly good at doing this eradication. The statistics surrounding the men who have received proton therapy for prostate cancer (often at a cancer treatment center) more than back up this claim.
The odds, of course, are best for men who have been diagnosed with low risk prostate cancer. For such men, the chances of being declared “cured” after five years of remission are actually currently sitting at around 99% when proton treatment is used as a part of their cancer treatment. And men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer of an intermediate severity and progression still have an up to 94% chance of remaining cancer free for at least five years, if not even longer than that. Even men who are dealing with high risk prostate cancer are likely to be cured after five years, with nearly three quarters of all such men who went through proton treatment remaining cancer free after a full half of a decade. This shows quite clearly just how powerful cancer treatment, particularly proton therapy cancer treatment, is able to be.
Proton therapy for cancer is also beneficial for men with prostate cancer for another reason. This reason is, again, linked to the targeted approach of proton cancer treatment and how directly the radiation is able to be concentration. This leads to the majority of all men who undergo proton therapy for prostate cancer able to resume a normal sex life – or at least a relatively normal sex life, as the case may be – after their course of treatment has been completed and they have had time to recover. For many men, this is more than enough reason to choose proton therapy at their nearest cancer treatment center over another more traditional form of radiation cancer treatment that is currently being offered in the United States.
