Water is very essential for the human body. It maintains and controls the systems of the body and stimulates the protection against some disease and disorders.
Water is one of the main foods. It may have no calories but we need it more than we need any other nutrient. Water is needed just like food to keep the body in a good condition.
Water is involved in the transportation of trace elements, nutrients and hormones to the cells and the intercellular places. It also regulates the temperature of the body, lubricates the joints, tones up the muscles.
Human body stores up nutrients but cannot store up water. The body is not able to hydrate itself and dehydration is signaled with thirst.
We can survive quite long without food because of the reserves the body has, but can survive just a few days without water. We shouldn’t wait to get thirsty in order to drink water because if you are thirsty, then your body is dehydrated. And it is recommended that you not let your body dehydrated.
We should drink at least 1.5 liters of water every day. The amount of water needed by the body varies with the body weight, the temperature outside and the activities you are involved in.
