Having good skin is a great aspiration. Some people have it naturally and some don’t. Either way we still need to take care of our skin. Having the best dermatologist is helpful but even if you have the best dermatologist in the world and do nothing on your own to take care of your skin, you will see the effects quite early on.
Our skin is the protector. It takes all the beatings from the environments, climate, bumps and bruises to protect what is on the inside. All that wear and tear can take a toll on our skin so here are a few ways to give your skin the tender loving care that it needs.
Moisturizer
For a long time I never used moisturizer because I felt like I didn’t need it and only when I used it was when I felt like my skin even needed it, if that makes sense. Then I found out about parabens.
Parabens are an additive placed in cosmetic products to trick your skin into needing them. Basically, they will copy the natural oils in your skin so that your body thinks it does not need to produce it anymore. As long as you keep using the lotion your skin will feel great but the minute you stop, because your skin is not producing that oil naturally anymore, your skin will dry out and be “thirsty.”
Make sure, when you were buying moisturizer or any other cosmetic product for that matter, that you check the ingredients for parabens and obviously do not buy those products.
A good moisturizer will help improve the elasticity and texture of the skin as well as hydrate it. They are not made to replace our natural oils but work in conjunction with them to promote younger and softer skin that will last the hard times. However, the best dermatologist will tell her, without water, moisturizer is pointless.
Sunscreen
Too much sun exposure can permanently damage the layers of your skin not to mention sunspots, skin cancer, texture change, lines and wrinkles, growths on skin, corneal damage and premature aging. While there is a treatment for skin cancer and other conditions, it’s best to just avoid it all together.
Wearing sunscreen can preserve your skin for the long term. While skin does regenerate and heal itself, the sun can do such damage to the epidermal layer that the issues caused are irreparable.
The easiest way to ensure that you are protected against UV rays at all times is to get a moisturizer with SPF factor of at least 30. Then you can moisturize and put on sunscreen all at once.
Exfoliation
Exfoliation removes the outer layer of dead skin cells to allow the fresh skin underneath to breathe and live.
You do not want to exfoliate more then once a week because over exfoliation can lead to scrubbing off live skin cells which causes the skin to need to heal itself and possibly over produce.
Using a pH neutral exfoliation treatment is best because while smoothing out your skin, it will respect the natural levels of your body.
Water
Drinking water is essential not only for your skin before your body as well.
The dermis is made up of 75% water and because of sweating and urinating, we need to constantly be replenishing our water source in order to keep our skin healthy and nourished.
Basically what it all comes down to is keeping the skin clean. If your skin is clean it will be happy. Keeping your hands clean is especially important because of all the things that you touch that could spread germs.
The skin does so many wonderful things for us like keeping us warm when it’s cold outside or keeping us cool when it’s hot outside. It allows you to touch things and feel the world around you. It even protects you from infections.
The skin is in fact, the largest organ in your body yet we take it for granted. Remember that the skin is the one of the most important parts of our body and even with the best dermatologist at our fingertips, it is our job to take care of it whether it involves skin care for men or women.
