Do You Have an Upcoming Appointment with a Spine Surgeon?

Posted on February 23, 2019 by News Health

There have been many times as a parent when you wish that you could take away your child’s pain, but the day that you left the spine and scoliosis with your 11 year old daughter’s new brace is probably top of the list. Although the spine and scoliosis doctor said that you could wait another three months and come in and see if there was any kind of improvement, you also heard from a number of your physician friends that you should just have your daughter fitted for the brace now and start the process.

You feared that this might be a possibility for awhile now, and the fact that your husband had to wear a similar brace when he was young was another indicator that at least one of your two children would need scoliosis correction procedures at some point.

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Is a Process That Many Patients Receive to Live a More Comfortable Life

If you have never had any back problems before then you should probably consider yourself lucky, because the latest research indicates that as many as 80% of people will suffer from some kind of back problem at some time in their lives. For many of these people, their problems began many years ago when they were first diagnosed with scoliosis.
Fortunately, there is little chance of the condition getting worse in scoliosis cases where the curve of the spine is less than 10 degrees. When the curve is greater, however, the condition can get even worse if you do not receive the right kind of scoliosis treatment early enough. With the right kind of treatment for scoliosis, there are many people who end up living the rest of their lives with limited problems or pain. Early detection, of course, is key.

For instance, scoliosis cases with a curve of 20 to 30 degrees in a growing child should be checked every four to six months. In comparison, patients with scoliosis that have a curve of 50 degrees or more will likely be considered for surgery.

Back pain can be a difficult condition that keeps you from living the kind of life that you want, but with the right treatments, and sometimes surgery, it is possible that you can find the relief that you need.
