Finasteride (Propecia) is a tablet that is taken orally. It has an anti-androgen effect because it blocks the male hormones which cause hair loss. Higher doses of this medication are used to reduce the size of the prostate gland in cases of benign prostatic hypertrophy. It is effective in about 80% of the cases and its usage should continue in order to keep the achieved results.
Surgery is another treatment option and it is considered as the only reliable method. There are three main techniques for hair growth restoration: a transplant, scalp reduction and flap surgery.
