Rosacea can be deffitied with aromatherapy

Posted on April 2, 2010April 1, 2010 by News Health

Rosacea treatment can be costly, invasive, and often ineffective. Medical science says there’s no cure for this skin condition, but unconventional treatments like essentials oil for skin rashes and facial redness can provide help for rosacea sufferers.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition, mostly suffered by adults. It can be recognized by the appearance of redness and of small red bumps on the skin.

Rosacea will often cause facial redness, especially of the nose, and visible blood vessels in the face. It may worsen and improve on its own, but is considered a “cyclic” condition because it tends to recur (and usually worsen) over the course of a person’s life.

According to the website of the Mayo Clinic, medical experts don’t really know what causes rosacea. There are a number of factors that may be involved, including heredity, skin sensitivity, exposure to sunlight, stress, temperature extremes, skin care products, and even some foods and drugs. In particular, spicy foods, alcohol, and corticosteriods have been noted to worsen rosacea symptoms.

Choosing to Treat Rosacea Naturally with Aromatherapy

Most doctors believe that rosacea is incurable and chronic, but there are plenty of over-the-counter and prescription medications for the condition. Unfortunately, few of them work, forcing many people to delve into lesser-known remedies for relief. Essential oils are one of many natural treatments used for rosacea and skin care, but unlike many herbal remedies, they actually work.

Essential oils have been used for thousands of years to treat skin problems like rosacea. They are mentioned in the major herbal medical texts of China, India, Africa and Europe and are famed for their ability to resolve skin conditions like redness, acne and rosacea.

Essential Oils for Rosacea Natural Treatment

Pure, therapeutic grade oils can be applied directly to the skin, where rosacea appears, or it may be diluted using extra virgin olive, almond, jojoba, avocado, or other pure fatty oils.

The best aromatherapy oils to use for rosacea treatment include:

  • eucalyptus
  • melaleuca (“tea tree”)
  • clary sage
  • chamomile
  • frankincense
  • sandalwood
  • helichrysum
  • lavender
  • vetiver
  • cedarwood
  • rosewood

When treating a sensitive condition like rosacea, it is especially important to be sure of the quality of the oils being used. Rosacea will respond badly to oils that are mixed with other ingredients or that have not been processed to the standards of therapeutic grade oils.
