Energy drinks become very popular, particular among teenagers. These drinks are used to boost energy but specialists warn that they have many side effects and can be dangerous.
Caffeine is one of the main ingredients in energy drinks. In limited quantities it can boost energy, but if it is consumed in large quantities, caffeine can increase the blood pressure. In addition, it can cause some other blood problems, too.
Energy drinks can become addictive if used regularly. A common ingredient used in such drinks is guarana – a stimulant that affects the Central Nervous System. However, this may have negative influence on the body in general.
Another common ingredient used in energy drinks is taurine. It is also used in some foods, so we get all necessary taurine from the food we consume. The excess quantities of taurine we obtain with energy drinks may be toxic for our bodies.
